In the world of autonomous ride-hailing services, there are only a handful of names. Each of these few players follows a specific strategy to keep the competition at bay. Tesla relies on a combination of its own hardware (FSD chip) and a growing fleet of Tesla vehicles that are continuously improved via over-the-air updates. Unlike Waymo, Tesla does not use expensive lidar sensors but a camera-based solution.
Next Steps for Robotaxi
Tesla has already launched a Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, that operates without a human safety driver. This service will be expanded to more cities in the coming months.
