Tesla has made a significant change to how customers access Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology in the UK and the rest of Europe. The company has discontinued the one-time purchase option for FSD. Customers must now use a subscription model. This article explains the new FSD costs in Europe, the subscription prices in pounds and euros, upgrade options from Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) to FSD, and answers key questions about value, as fully unsupervised driving is not yet legal in Europe.
All new Tesla vehicles in Europe continue to come standard with Autopilot, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. Enhanced Autopilot extends features with automatic lane changes, navigate on Autopilot, Autopark, and Summon. Full Self-Driving builds on EAP and offers city street navigation, traffic sign and traffic light recognition, and advanced AI for complex driving situations. In Europe, all FSD features operate in supervised mode. Drivers must remain attentive according to current EU and UK government regulations. Previously, the one-time purchase of FSD cost £6,800 in the UK. Similar prices applied in euros for Europe at €7,500. These purchases granted permanent access to the software on that vehicle. Tesla discontinued this option in May 2026 to focus on a subscription model.
The change supports continuous software updates and recurring revenue for the company. In the UK, the FSD Europe subscription costs £99 per month. In key euro currency markets like Germany and France, it costs €99 per month. Annual plans may offer discounts in the future, but there is no confirmation yet. The subscription is activated immediately via an over-the-air update and can be cancelled at any time. This price is significantly cheaper for short- to medium-term use compared to the previous one-time cost.
Owners with Enhanced Autopilot have a direct upgrade path to FSD. The subscription cost is identical; there is no discount for EAP owners. However, EAP owners receive all FSD features without additional hardware requirements.
Unlike the US, where Tesla occasionally offers one-time purchases at discounted prices, this is not the case in Europe due to regulatory differences. In the US, the FSD subscription costs $99, while the one-time purchase is $8,000. In Europe, one-time purchases are no longer available, only the subscription. Enthusiasts with older Tesla models without EAP can no longer upgrade to FSD; they first need EAP, which varies by market and vehicle. In Germany, EAP costs around €4,500 as a one-time purchase.
