Tesla Cybertruck: Smart Summon Finally Confirmed
Tesla has officially confirmed that the Actually Smart Summon (ASS) feature will be deployed for the Cybertruck. This comes about two and a half years after the first deliveries of the electric pickup. The feature is part of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite and allows owners to summon their vehicle from a distance – either via smartphone or key fob. The announcement originated from Teslarati and was confirmed by Tesla itself.
While ASS has been available on the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y since late 2023, Cybertruck drivers had to wait a long time. Now the update is rolling out with FSD software version v14.3.4. The feature enables the vehicle to autonomously maneuver through parking lots and avoid obstacles. Compared to the older Enhanced Summon, ASS is said to be significantly more reliable and smoother.
Differences: ASS on Cybertruck vs. Other Models
The Cybertruck brings certain peculiarities due to its size and design. The following table shows the key differences:
Impact on the European Market
For European Cybertruck owners, the announcement is a positive signal. However, ASS is not yet widely available in Europe. So far, Tesla has approved FSD Supervised in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark – other countries like Germany are expected to follow later this year. Once the feature is activated here as well, Cybertruck drivers can benefit from the advantages of automatic parking and summoning.
Comparison with Competitor Products
While Waymo already offers widespread autonomous robotaxi services in the US, Tesla's approach is tailored to private vehicle owners. ASS is an important step to enhance the comfort of the Cybertruck – especially in tight parking lots where the bulky design quickly reaches its limits. Compared to Enhanced Summon (2019), ASS is significantly more mature and utilizes the neural networks of the HW4 computer.
